Wawona At Yosemite Park

 Yosemite National Park provides limitless surprises to its throng of visitors. Wawona is another treasure located within the boundaries of the park. It is a small community that is basically elevated at the same height as the Yosemite Valley which is about 4000 feet.

Much of the park’s history is best expressed in the Wawona Area. American Indians were Wawona’s first residents. They occupied the area even before 1857, when a hotel was built by Galen Clark. He went on to become the first guardian of Wawona at Yosemite Park. The Washburn brothers bought the area when the Wawona road opened in 1875. They established the Wawona Hotel that is still existent up to this date. 

Tourists who enter the park through its south entrance will pass through Wawona at Yosemite Park before they reach the Yosemite Valley. A lot of people find it worthwhile to spend time on the Covered Bridge as well as the Pioneer History Center. 

Wawona at Yosemite Park is a community composed of 160 residents, young and old included. It houses an elementary school, a post office, gas station, library, and many others. Wawona at Yosemite Park boasts of amenities that its residents and visitors can all enjoy at the same time.
