Cuckoo Clock
Typically a pendulum driven instrument that displays the hours and minutes, a cuckoo clock makes that interesting sound of a whistling bird when it strikes the exact period. It was in the middle of the 18th century where the mechanism was produced and until the present, it has remained what it is since it was conceived. The design it has now is very conventional where it still takes the shape of a rustic chalet that is mounted on the wall. Usually, the case is decorated with carved leaves and animal heads. However, there has been some slight changes such as with the automation that appears through a tiny trap door.
In a cuckoo clock, there are typically two kinds of motions called 1- day movement and 8- day movement. There are also some that play a melody based on a Swiss music box. Most of such models have other automaton that budges when the tune is already played. It is also driven by weight but with only few springs. It is constructed out of cast iron that takes a shape of a pine cone. In the previous years, it is powered by a quartz battery however, such does not have authentic bellows. The bird flaps its wings as it exclaims with running water in the background.
